Donald Navarre

I hardly know where to begin! Let me start by saying; when I received Donald's application, it came with a note. The note basically stated he would love to help... but didn't know if he would be able to offer much time. (Pardon me while I sit back and chuckle!) Donald all but lives here at The Center.

In 2004 he put in 1,130 hours in volunteer time. Not only is Don putting in the time... but he gets an amazing amount of work done. He takes on all kinds of projects without being asked. When he sees a cage needs repairing -he does it, when he saw that we didn't have fire extinguishers in the buildings - he pursued businesses that would donate them, when we were short on volunteers to answer the phones -he signed up, when he saw that our web site needed more constant monitoring and changing than the students at Anthony Wayne could possibly do -he took a class and got software that allowed him to maintain our site, and most recently when we acquired more program birds - Donald designed, took care of purchasing materials, and is currently supervising the building of more program bird cages! No small venture. The list goes on and on, but basically, Donald simply sees what needs doing.. and does it .

Donald's wife, Nancy deserves our thanks as well. We have practically stolen her husband.. and slowed him down on some major home projects, like working on their roof!

Not only is Donald a great volunteer, but he always brings a smile to my face when he enters the room. He is somebody that all the volunteers like to work with. In fact everybody seems to like Donald... EXCEPT Migisi, the Bald Eagle. I don't know what he did to tick her off ...but she starts complaining the minute she sees him! I guess you can't please all the people (or eagles) all the time.

Thanks Donald for all you do. I hope you continue to have a little time for us for many years to come!
