FEATURED VOLUNTEERS

Earl Rehberg

Earl began his NN career as a person who needed our services. He brought out a raccoon to The Center on Christmas many years ago. From that point on... he was hooked. He became a member of our organization and that eventually lead to volunteering.
Earl was still working one of those paid jobs (that so often gets in the way of people volunteering!)... so he helped out by going on some of our educational programs. Now that he is retired... we get to see him every Thursday as a Daykeeper. He is one lone (and lucky) man amongst lovely young ladies on that day. Maybe that's why he always has a smile on his face! More recently he also worked at the Fools for Animals event"' again with two of the volunteers from Thursdays. (Hmmmm? Earl, do you have groupies???)

Emily Anderson

It is hard for me to imagine that Emily has only been with Nature's Nursery since June of 2004. She is one of those people who seemed to fit right in as soon as she started. It seems like she has been a part of The Center for many years! Emily is a senior at Anthony Wayne High School. She is currently trying to decide on what college to attend. At this point, she is leaning towards a degree in psychology. (With her calm and thoughtful manner ...she would be excellent!)
Emily mainly works as a Daykeeper on Saturdays, but has helped out in other ways as well. She is interested in assisting with programs and has been able to fit a few into her schedule. A few months ago she came in and helped out with daykeeping on a Monday. (No... she didn't skip school to volunteer .) It was Presidents Day and we were short on volunteers... so she kindly used her day off school to lend a hand.
That is dedication!

Joe Szczerbiak

Joe has been with us a long time... but you may have never seen him! He is one of the few
volunteers we have who is available to transport from the East side of Toledo... and it often
occurs after hours. I just want to say how much I appreciate Joe. He is such a lifesaver!
I guess I should be saying they, since Joe always works with a partner. His wife, June always comes with him on these missions! (Every once in awhile I think she gets dinner out of the deal!) Joe doesn't discriminate either. He will respond just as quickly if it is a rabbit, a hawk, or an owl. Basically, the Szczerbiaks are just plain good people... and Nature's Nursery is lucky to call them part of our family.

Denise Knotts

Denise is one of the few volunteers that I can honestly say, I remember the day
I met her. Deb and I were doing a program at Stautzenberger College for one of the
vet tech classes. Afterwards, this lady offered to help us carry our things out to
the truck. Once there, she said, "I have to volunteer out there!" That lady was Denise.
Since that day, Denise has helped with everything from daykeeper to programs to hotline to transporter! Although she is a great daykeeper, and that is how most people see her ...I think she is a transporter extraordinaire! Denise seems like she always makes herself available. Okay, except when she is traveling from one coast to the other to see her two grandsons! But don't think I haven't tried to get her even when she is out of state. Many a time I've called her cell phone and asked her to pick up an injured goose... only to find she is being totally uncooperative simply because she is in Minnesota or someplace like that!! Bottom line... Denise is an extremely valuable volunteer I hope to have with us for a very long time!
